My recommendation for this week is not a website but a nifty freeware for your computer. This is something I have on my laptop and love immensely. I’ve been using it since last December. It’s called Start Up Delayer.

When Windows boots, every application within your Startup file are loaded at the same time. Therefore if you have a lot of programs starting when Windows begins, each program will try and grab CPU time so that it can load. That is why your computer eventually slows down to turtle pace–as each program loads and as the hard disk accesses multiple files.

You can actually minimize the loading time by turning off the applications at start up using Run >> MSCONFIG. But there are programs you probably cannot or do not want to disable because you will need them later on.

Startup Delayer allows you to setup how many seconds after Windows has started, to load each program. I have set my desktop calendar (will write about that next time) to start a minute and 15 seconds after windows has booted for example. And I have set my virus protector to begin 30 seconds after that. That has significantly sped up my start up-time. And that is why I use Start Up Delayer. And that is why Ang Peregrino Recommends it this week.
