Fr. Johnny Go, SJ was my spiritual director back when I was a prenovice at Arvisu House. Back then, his homilies were much sought after and his masses were really popular among the college kids who would suddenly go to mass on Mondays (the day he says mass) and be absent the rest of the week. After transferring to Xavier School in Greenhills, Manila as its School Director, Fr. Johnny Go became even more popular as a homilist in Mary the Queen Parish. I remember a homily he gave to around 3000 people in Ateneo de Manila University. It was for the St. Ignatius Day Celebrations and he used a Powerpoint Presentation (or was it Keynote?) during the homily. I remember it to be interactive and fun, but also very deep.
And that is typical Johnny Go. When you see him “live”, giving his retreats, homilies and talks, he uses mtvs and video clips to help bring home his deep and thought-provoking point/s. He is not afraid to use the full measure of media to make a point and it shows in Pins of Light. Pins of Light is not just a log of the typical, run-of-the-mill homilies (i.e. boring, monotone, loooooooong), Pins of Light is mercifully short and sweet, thought-provoking (I’ve said that already but I say it again), and media-enhanced (usually via a youtube mtv of a contemporary song, cool video, or song lyrics). When he talked about that gospel passage about building your house on rock or sand for example, Fr. Johnny used the backdrop of the earthquake that ravaged the Sichuan province of China and the whole homily became more alive because of an accompanying video about it.
And because of the growing number of readers who give their comments and share their experiences, it has become a place to think and talk about faith, lives, and God.

For the cool homilies, the media-enhanced experience of spirituality, and the cool person behind the homilies, Ang Peregrino Recommends Pins of Light this week.
