Post­Se­cret is an ongo­ing com­mu­nity art project in which peo­ple mail their secrets anony­mously on one side of a home­made post­card. Frank War­ren started the project, and since Jan­u­ary 1, 2005, has col­lected upwards of 2,500 post­card secrets from the US and around the world.

This is one of the best websites/blogs you’ll ever visit. Say­ing that this is one of the best is say­ing a lot, but I say this because:

1) It’s “bite­size”. Not the really loong posts of other blogs. Being bite-size is good for feeds and for daily read­ings when you only have 15 min­utes to surf. I con­fess I also get into the habit of post­ing long arti­cles, like this, and this. But I’m start­ing to do some­thing about it and will try to make my posts read­able in 10 mins or less.

2) It’s visual. You don’t read long arti­cles but post­cards of peo­ple. Cre­ativ­ity and hon­esty is the name of the game. And while there are some misses, there are a lot more hits.

3) The insights you get from peo­ple are amaz­ing. I found myself nod­ding invol­un­tar­ily when I read some of the secrets. I could totally relate. And some of the secrets were things I would’ve sent myself. And I guess that is why this works: Post­se­cret gives voice to the oth­er­wise silent and well-kept (and for­got­ten) secrets of peo­ple around the world. And by putting it out in the open, we are some­how freed from it, and there’s a col­lec­tive sigh of relief by the peo­ple who read it.

And that is why I think this is one of the web­sites you’ll ever visit.

In the 2006 Weblog Awards, Post­Se­cret received five Blog­gies: Best Amer­i­can Weblog, Best Top­i­cal Weblog, Best Com­mu­nity Weblog, Best New Weblog, and Weblog of the Year. It was judged Weblog of the Year again for 2007.
