PostSecret is an ongoing community art project in which people mail their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard. Frank Warren started the project, and since January 1, 2005, has collected upwards of 2,500 postcard secrets from the US and around the world.

This is one of the best websites/blogs you’ll ever visit. Saying that this is one of the best is saying a lot, but I say this because:

1) It’s “bitesize”. Not the really loong posts of other blogs. Being bite-size is good for feeds and for daily readings when you only have 15 minutes to surf. I confess I also get into the habit of posting long articles, like this, and this. But I’m starting to do something about it and will try to make my posts readable in 10 mins or less.

2) It’s visual. You don’t read long articles but postcards of people. Creativity and honesty is the name of the game. And while there are some misses, there are a lot more hits.

3) The insights you get from people are amazing. I found myself nodding involuntarily when I read some of the secrets. I could totally relate. And some of the secrets were things I would’ve sent myself. And I guess that is why this works: Postsecret gives voice to the otherwise silent and well-kept (and forgotten) secrets of people around the world. And by putting it out in the open, we are somehow freed from it, and there’s a collective sigh of relief by the people who read it.

And that is why I think this is one of the websites you’ll ever visit.

In the 2006 Weblog Awards, PostSecret received five Bloggies: Best American Weblog, Best Topical Weblog, Best Community Weblog, Best New Weblog, and Weblog of the Year. It was judged Weblog of the Year again for 2007.
