20 Lessons I’ve Learned in Life

Here is a summary of major lessons I’ve learned in my life (so far). I know there should be more but I’m keeping the list to 20 so I don’t tangent to other things.

Read on and leave me a message below if you can relate or if you want to add your own lessons.

1. Faith is believing that something bigger than us holds us in the palm of His hands. Hope is the ability to wait things out for this kind of faith to kick in.

2. If you worry, you didn’t pray. If you pray, don’t worry. But even if you really worry, it’s ok.

3. It will always turn out better. Always.

How to Pack a Bag When Travelling

I’ve been traveling very frequently the past few months. I usually just pack light and without fanfare, but it would be good to know about some techniques in packing. I’m not too ashamed to admit it, but when I was a Jesuit, two of my friends, Lito and Aldwin, used to pack my bags for me. Hehehe. But now that I’m living alone, I have to learn to fend for myself specially with the frequent travels that my job entails.

I got this from The Art of Manliness and I encourage you to click on the link to read the full article.

When going on a trip, many men, to their shame, have the women in their lives- their mom, girlfriend, or wife- pack their suitcase for them. They either can’t be bothered or are afraid they don’t know how. But your mom won’t always be around, and if you plan on being a well-traveled man, it’s essential that you learn how to effectively pack a bag. You don’t want to bring too much stuff, too little stuff, or have your stuff arrive in a crumpled mess.

From the Already Good to the Really Better

One of my batchmates when I entered the Jesuits is a guy named Lito Ocon. Lito is one of my closest friends in the Society and next year, Lito will be ordained a Jesuit priest.

Before entering the Jesuits, he was a civil engineer doing design for a Japanese ship company called Tsuneishi. Before becoming a civil engineer, he was a college student in Divine Word College (now Holy Name University) in Tagbilaran, Bohol. His story is stuff for Maalala Mo Kaya (a Filipino sitcom known for its tearkerkers). He worked as a janitor for the Grade School department of the school he was studying in, then as an aide for priests of the Divine Word (SVD) in the SVD residence–cleaning their rooms, shining their shoes, washing their plates.

When he was working in Tsuneishi, he went up to the penthouse of his condo in Japan one night, beheld the stars and started to think that there must be more to life than what he had at the moment. To make the long story short, he entered the Society of Jesus some years afterwards.

The Wisdom of Henry Ford

Of course you know who he is. He is not just an American icon, he is one of those who span all nationalities because of what he was able to accomplish in his lifetime.

Ford suffered two unsuccessful attempts to build his dream with the Detroit Automobile Company and the Henry Ford Company. Then, in 1903, along with other investors, Ford and his team contributed $100,000 and incorporated as Ford Motor Company. Henry Ford became chief engineer and vice president and later bought out his partners.

The Girl Effect!

Girls living in poverty are uniquely capable of creating a better future. But when a girl reaches adolescence, she comes to a crossroads. She either get a chance, gets educated, stays healthy and HIV negative, marries when she chooses, raises a healthy family, and has the opportunity to raise the standard of living for herself and those around her. Or not. This engaging video artfully probes deeper into the “girl effect”.

Ang Peregrino Recommends 42: Hongkiat.Com

Hongkiat is a blog about “online tips for tech users, designers and bloggers”. I have used this blog a lot of times when I’m trying to get some info about blogging, or when I want to get inspired with a design idea. I am using plug-ins and hacks suggested by Hongkiat. And the general lay-out as well as some of the auxiliary designs of AngPeregrino were also inspired by Hongkiat. And this post is making me think about improving my own 404 error page.

I really like the blog’s design and lay-out. It’s very clean and it tells me that the person behind it is someone who has a great mastery of CSS, javascript, and the other geeky stuff that makes for a great website/blog.

Change of Lay-out

Ang Peregrino will be undergoing a major lay-out change in the coming days. I am reinventing the site to look more like a magazine than a blog.

Please bear with me if links do not work, or the pages will come out weird and images will be blank. I am experimenting with the design. I think this will take about a whole week to finalize.

I promise that AngPeregrino will be better after all this! :-)

Productivity 2.0 and How It Is Changing the World of Work

Longish article but really cool and worth it. This is from one of my favorite sites ZenHabits.Net.
The world is really changing, and fast. And while traditionalists would look at what is happening as something that is making people more lazy, more laidback and a destruction of old school values, this article shows us a different perspective. This is the perspective of a new generation of workers. Productivity 1.0 vs. Productivity 2.0. You can use this article as a mirror to what is happening in your own work. The lessons …
