Charice Pempengco on Oprah (Again!)

Here is one of the Philippine’s pride, Charice Pem­pengco. You’ve prob­a­bly seen this before but it’s always good to see it again, and again. For some strange rea­son this made me cry when I saw it.

I think it’s because we have a sense of what it would be like to meet our own child­hood hero/es, and we can relate to what she felt when she was asked by Celine Dion to sing with her in Madi­son Square Gar­den. For me it would be like being asked to play one on one with Larry Bird (other peo­ple would prob­a­bly want to play with Michael Jor­dan, but I am a Celtics fan through and through). We cry because we saw her inno­cent emo­tions laid bare; while older peo­ple would hold it back, chil­dren don’t. We cry because we know that mir­a­cles like that doesn’t hap­pen often, but it hap­pened to this lit­tle Fil­ip­ina girl who is pure tal­ent and per­se­ver­ance. We cry because deep in our hearts we want to believe that dreams do come true…
