I Am Ninoy

The IAmNinoy Campaign is a year-long celebration of the life and legacy of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino who was assassinated 25 years ago. 25 years ago, his death—like the death of Jose Rizal around 80 years before that—sparked a revolution. In 1983, it was as if hope itself died when Ninoy died on the tarmac of the airport that will one day be named after him. Three years later, millions went to the long stretch of EDSA (Epifanio de los Santos Avenue), to oust a dictator in a bloodless revolution—the first of its kind in the world.

The core message of the Campaign is the selfless giving of the best of ourselves for our countrymen and women and the advancement of the country as a whole. Hence, the campaign brings together corporate brands and their customers that give them opportunities to contribute to causes and projects that enhance the welfare of the poor and marginalized Filipinos.

The corporate partners of the iamninoy campaign so far are: Bench, Penshoppe, Team Manila, Analog Soul and Rudy Project.

“Our corporate campaign partners commit to manufacture and sell iamninoy goods and/or services as part of their participation in this campaign. In turn, BSAF (Benigno S. Aquino Foundation) grants our corporate partner the non-exclusive and non-transferable usage of the iamninoy brand and logo in the marketing and selling of their Goods & Services.”

“For the privilege of the grant of this usage, our corporate partner commits to donate a portion or a percentage of the income from the sales of its iamninoy goods and/or services during the campaign period to a worthy cause of their choosing in their name and that of the iamninoy Campaign. The Campaign will run for a year beginning August 212008.”

I bought a cool black iamninoy shirt from Bench and it looks like the Filipino version of the popular Che Guevarra shirts. I’ve worn it several times and I noticed people looking at the shirt from afar. I hope they buy the shirts or the iamninoy plates which is around P3000 and exempts your car from the color-coding traffic scheme for 18 months! I must say that is such a great deal.

For teaching us that the Filipino is still worth dying for, AngPeregrino Recommends IAmNinoy this week.
