Blast from the Recent Past 4: Forevermore

I remem­ber being in a Side A con­cert in Ate­neo de Manila, and hear­ing this song for the first time. At the end of the con­cert, its MTV was shown; and while peo­ple were fil­ing out of the con­cert venue, I stood there, mes­mer­ized by the beauty of the melody and the genius of its lyrics.

For my read­ers out­side the Philip­pines, Side A is one of the Philip­pines’ great bands. For my read­ers out­side the Philip­pines, Side A is one of the great Fil­ipino bands. It is def­i­nitely one of its most durable—they’ve been in the band scene since for­ever (well 1987 was the year their very first hit Eva Marie became a turntable hit). Yeah, their music is so time­less that they’ve spanned turnta­bles, to tapes (hence the name Side A), cds and dvds. In 1995, Forever­more became Song of the Year in the Philip­pine Awit (or Song) Awards.

Twenty years later, their music remains beau­ti­ful. And Side A remains great.
