Here
Where trees stand proudly
On mountaincrests that challenge the sky’s dominance
And water is heard caressing rocks on midnight romps
Broken only by the warning shrills of cicadas

Here
Where lazy breeze wander through afternoon passes
Leaving a dance of evergreens in its wake;
And the chill of long-forgotten memories.

Here
Proud trees give in to dominant skies
And the occasional bird that chooses to land on its branches
And leave droppings on its leaves

Here
Evergreens dance the dance of breeze
Not because the breeze is strong
But because it compels

Here
Trees know that it can only challenge the sky
for it is rooted on mountaincrests
That do not give way
Nor give in

Even if water caresses rocks on midnight romps
Even if cicadas give their warning shrills
Even if long forgotten memories chill.

Overlooking the mountains. JRH-Malaybalay. Nov 1, 2004.
