Mash­able is one of the world’s largest blog focused exclu­sively on Web 2.0 and Social Net­work­ing news. Founded in July 2005, it now has more than 5 mil­lion monthly pageviews. It is also one of the most pro­lific blog review­ing new Web sites and ser­vices, pub­lish­ing break­ing news on what’s new on the web.

Mash­able is also pop­u­lar with blog­gers and mem­bers of social net­work­ing sites — an increas­ingly influ­en­tial demo­graphic with peo­ple find­ing . Mash­able reg­u­larly writes about MySpace, YouTube, Face­book, Google, Twit­ter and star­tups, but it also reports on less high-profile social net­work­ing sites. The web­site also fea­tures its own social net­work, beta invites, a job board, cus­tomized pro­files, and MySpace layouts.

It was founded by a guy named Pete Cash­more, in a quite unlikely loca­tion: a small town in the north of Scot­land. Focus­ing on up-to-the-minute news on social net­works and new web­sites, it rapidly grew to be one of the top 10 blogs in the world accord­ing to the blog rank­ing ser­vice Tech­no­rati. The site’s writ­ers have been quoted in The New York Times, The Wash­ing­ton Post and hun­dreds of tech­nol­ogy pub­li­ca­tions. Pete was selected as a Top 25 Forbes Web Celeb in 2007, while Mash­able was cho­sen as a must-read site by both Fast Com­pany and PC Mag­a­zine. In mid 2007, Busi­ness­Week fea­tured Mash­able as one of the world’s most prof­itable blogs.
