Mashable is one of the world’s largest blog focused exclusively on Web 2.0 and Social Networking news. Founded in July 2005, it now has more than 5 million monthly pageviews. It is also one of the most prolific blog reviewing new Web sites and services, publishing breaking news on what’s new on the web.
Mashable is also popular with bloggers and members of social networking sites — an increasingly influential demographic with people finding . Mashable regularly writes about MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, Google, Twitter and startups, but it also reports on less high-profile social networking sites. The website also features its own social network, beta invites, a job board, customized profiles, and MySpace layouts.
It was founded by a guy named Pete Cashmore, in a quite unlikely location: a small town in the north of Scotland. Focusing on up-to-the-minute news on social networks and new websites, it rapidly grew to be one of the top 10 blogs in the world according to the blog ranking service Technorati. The site’s writers have been quoted in The New York Times, The Washington Post and hundreds of technology publications. Pete was selected as a Top 25 Forbes Web Celeb in 2007, while Mashable was chosen as a must-read site by both Fast Company and PC Magazine. In mid 2007, BusinessWeek featured Mashable as one of the world’s most profitable blogs.
If you are into social media (don’t deny it, YOU have at one time or another been a friendster, myspace, multiply or facebook addict!), and you want to learn more about the service you’re using, then you might want to check out MASHABLE.
For giving us inside looks into features of social media sites we wouldn’t have discovered otherwise, and for giving us very fresh news on our favorite social media sites, Ang Peregrino Recommends Mashable this week.
