The Best Posts on Love and Relationships in Ang Peregrino

I realized when I was making the Coolest Random Cool Posts on Ang Peregrino, that I have quite a good archive of posts on relationship and love. I am making this list so it would be easier for you to find them, and also because when you’re feeling depressed and down (because of a love problem I suppose), you do not have time to mope and search and google things. So here it is in one fell swoop.
There’s a lot of gems of wisdom here. Find the title that suits how you are feeling at the moment, and I hope that you eventually find your bliss!
1. 99 Secrets Girls Have to Know About Guys
men are from Mars and women are from Venus. The most difficult part of relationships is miscommunication, misreading of motivations and assumptions. Here is something for the girls to know about guys.
2. Love, According to Bob Ong
Practical, no non-sense, humorous stuff from Bob Ong. Some have called them Bob Ong-isms. I wonder when they’ll start calling what I write Peregrino-isms or Peregrinations (?!) hahaha. Maybe not in a thousand years! But let’s see.
3. Things You Should Know Before You Get Into a Relationship
The title is self-explanatory. Sometimes we jump from one relationship to the next without really taking a pause to think about whether we are ready to be in a relationship or not. Here are things to consider and think about.
4. Night Out Permission Slip
Here is something for the girls and guys who are in relationships out there. Personally, I’d hate to be in a relationship where I’d have to fill this out every time I go out. But this is really just a metaphorical form for what some guys have to go through when the girlfriend or wife gets angry (or acts like she is) because the guy wants to go out with the rest of the boys. I’d like to think that this is the thought process of women. So guys, be prepared to answer!
5. Anything Less Than Mad Love Is A Waste of Time
I have used this as a backdrop of a talk I gave to Ateneo student leaders several years ago. It’s by Leah Castañeda and is one great read. Read it when you’re feeling like a loser, or when you’re feeling like you need to be loved by somebody.
Anyway. Just read. Haha!
6. How To Find True Love (Or Rather, How It Finds You)
This is a 1999 article from Reader’s Digest. Great article. Beautiful stuff.
7. Why Men Are Happier Than Women
Tongue-in-cheek post on why men are supposed to be happier than women. If you don’t think so, read the article for yourself! (you’re a woman reading this right?!)
A great article on Love, finding the One, and commitment. Was attributed to Mr. Calasanz of the Ateneo de Manila Philosophy Department but he told me that he didn’t write it. It is from a book by Kent Nerburn called Letters to My Son, A Father’s Wisdom on Manhood, Women, Life, and Love.
This is the Palanca Award winning play by Juan Ekis. It won the 2nd place in the one-act category in 2003. Long read, but I tell you, IT IS WORTH IT. It’s in Filipino, without any translation, so I apologize to my foreign readers.
10. Mangyari Lamang/ Please Stand
This is a poem by Rico Belardo, which is used by Bobby Guevarra as an opening opening prayer for his class in Liberation Theology. He was my teacher in 4th year college and became a good friend afterwards. I did a rough translation for my students in Cebu who had a hard time understanding Filipino.
