When I went to Jakarta the other week, I had $100 in my pocket which I converted to around Rp9,500,000 to tide me over my trip. I spent some of it in buying a Jakarta sim, but the rest of the time, my cousin Glenn, who is an expat in Indonesia, took care of practically everything. My boss, Danny, also used his credit card for some other expenses. So at the end of the trip, my $100 survived Indonesia almost intact.
If you have $100, what would you do with the money?
This is the concept behind Project 100.
Project 100 is a program designed to promote the positive aspects of giving in our local communities. The program is giving away 100 dollars to 100 people over 100 days in an effort to encourage people to give back to others in their local community.
Co-op Services Credit Union is the creator of Project 100, which was designed to help local communities by encouraging their residents to focus on giving back. The credit union knew that giving away money alone wouldn’t be enough. They needed to create a spark that would continue to spread. Therefore, they enlisted the aid of random people all over town by giving them $100 dollar bills and encouraging them to continue the effort of giving back.
100 People. 100 Days. 100 Dollars.
Over the next few months, Co-op Services Credit Union and Project 100 will be visiting 100 random people all over town and giving each of them a single $100 dollar bill. What’s the catch? There isn’t one. Recipients can do whatever they wish with their money.
All Project 100 asks is that they think about what they can do to make the community a better place – whether it’s volunteering for a community event or helping out a neighbor in need. The act itself doesn’t matter. It’s the idea that any simple act of giving can spark a change for the better.

What would you do with 100 Dollars?
It’s something to think about. If you’ve signed up on the site, you could be next! As you decide, a good question to ask yourself is, what could you be doing for your community? It can be as simple as passing out water at a marathon, helping to clean up a public park or donating to charity. Remember, the act itself doesn’t matter, just that you do something. Your act alone can create a spark for change.
