Ang Peregrino Recommends 32: BoingBoing.Net
Boingboing is #5 in the list of the Top 100 Blogs in the world right now. And rightly so.
Boingboing has the catchy tagline: A DIRECTORY OF WONDERFUL THINGS (which is a more succinct tagline compared to COOL THINGS YOU PICK UP ON THE ROAD CALLED LIFE—this made me think. Should I replace this? What do you think?). And it is a directory of really wonderful things.
It started out as a fanzine in 1988 by Mark Frauenfelder and Carla Sinclair. Along with Mondo 2000, Boing Boing was an influence in the development of the cyberpunk subculture. Common themes included technology, futurism, science fiction, gadgets, intellectual property, Disney and politics.

Yabang Pinoy is about getting back our pride of being Filipinos. It was founded by a group of Filipinos who realized that one of the biggest problems faced by the Philippines today is Filipinos not believing enough in their nationality. The goal of the “Yabang Pinoy” campaign is to unite the Filipino people in believing in themselves and in fellow Filipinos. And I think this is such a timely goal considering the myriad of things that have dampened our spirit about our country the past few months.
Our politics have given us infamy (we’ve been named one of the Most Corrupt Country in the world)—and Billions in debt. Our sports programs are in shambles—our brightest hope to win a gold in the Olympics, boxer Harry Tanamor, was humiliated in the first round. We also lost in tae kwon do. We also had rebel Muslim groups attack our towns and cities in the last couple of weeks partly because of a botched Peace Process, but also because there will never be lasting peace without a better quality of life for everybody.

Manliness is an ART. More appropriately, it is a lost art. Consider these numbers:
Ang Peregrino Recommends 29: Best Article Every Day
The Best Article Everyday website is like the Reader’s Digest of blogs. As its name suggests, it aims to post the best article it finds every day. I do not know how it does that exactly–like what their criteria for “best article” is, or where they get these articles, but the articles here are really worth reading.

Ever since I was young, I have been an advocate for the environment. I remember back in high school, I would cut out news articles on the environment. I kept them in this really nerdy envelope. I even did a study on forest cover in Mindanao for my Investigatory Project in Biology class. Wow, I was a nerd, man. haha
I lost a little of that gung-ho attitude for the environment afterwards, but I do remember planting some trees in the Novitiate several years ago. I think the trees are still there- a testament to what was a budding vocation that was later on nipped in the bud (naks!).

I’ve been hooked to this website the past few weeks. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. In 1984, people from those three worlds came together in a conference to discuss their respective expertise and in order to find ways for possible convergences. The first TED included demos of the newly released Macintosh computer and Sony compact disc, while mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot demonstrated how to map coastlines with his newly discovered fractals and AI guru Marvin Minsky outlined his powerful new model of the mind.

Pray As You Go

This post is for my mom who is one of the regular readers of this blog. Pray-as-You-Go is a really cool website for those who want to pray but do not have the time, or those who are in need of a spiritual break, religious fix or devotional energizer (whew!) [...]
Ang Peregrino Recommends 25: Problogger
Problogger is a great site for bloggers like me, and would-be bloggers like some of my readers (join the fun! hehe). The site is dedicated to helping other bloggers learn the skills of blogging, share their own experiences and promote the blogging medium. Darren Rowse started it in September 2004 to keep a record of what he was learning about blogging for money. Since that time, he’s added over 3500 articles, tips, tutorials and case studies to his blog.

PostSecret is one of the best websites/blogs you’ll ever visit. It is an ongoing community art project in which people mail their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard.
Frank Warren started the project, and since January 1, 2005, has collected upwards of 2,500 postcard secrets from the US and around the world.

Cool Things in Random Places is about uhm, cool things found around the globe. It’s a little like Ang Peregrino (hehe) but I noticed that the past weeks, cool has taken the form of “strange” and “bizarre”– which I think is COOL for some people.
But I really love reading this blog because it gives me a sense of what COOL can be, and it is a good addition to the niche of COOL on the net. A good exercise can be going back to its archives and reading an article a day.
