The Wisdom of Henry Ford

Of course you know who he is. He is not just an American icon, he is one of those who span all nationalities because of what he was able to accomplish in his lifetime.

Ford suffered two unsuccessful attempts to build his dream with the Detroit Automobile Company and the Henry Ford Company. Then, in 1903, along with other investors, Ford and his team contributed $100,000 and incorporated as Ford Motor Company. Henry Ford became chief engineer and vice president and later bought out his partners.

Have you seen how Steve Jobs presents his keynotes? Wow. He is not your typical, loud, eloquent speaker. But he’s really fundamentally sound and he’s really good at bringing his point across. I think he’s one of the coolest speakers I know. It helps that he has had really good products to sell.

Several weeks ago, Bill Gates stepped down from Microsoft. He will remain as Microsoft’s chairman and work on special technology projects, but according to Bill himself (we now call each other by our first names. hehe), great wealth brings great responsibility (oh, he just sounded a lot like Spiderman there) and his future work will include finding new vaccines and financing projects in the developing world.

Featured in this video are celebrities including Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Brian Williams, Matthew McConaughey, George Clooney, Bono, Steven Spielberg and Jay-Z. Well, it helps that you’re really rich. And it helps that you’ve changed the face of the earth with Windows Vista. wahahahaha!

Now this is a really long post. So just read this on your free time. This was something I got years ago and I’ve added to it over the years.

Let me just say that it’s really worth the read, specially for my fellow Filipinos, and also for my foreigner readers who know Filipinos (this might be a good way to know us even more). With all the bad news going around, notwithstanding the SONA of the President last week, there are still a lot of things to be thankful for. Let’s start with these ONE HUNDRED things.

Terry Fator is known as The Human Jukebox because he is capable of making over 100 ventriloquial impersonations. He uses 16 different puppets for his shows. The videos here are from the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent which he won.
He has revolutionized Ventriloquism and he is one of my most favorite performers. The cool thing about him is that he’s not just a great ventriloquist, he also has a great singing voice, and he has a flair for comedy as well. The combination makes for great talent. …

Chris Paul is one of the best players of the NBA. He turned around the New Orleans Hornets from a team that won 18 games the previous year, to a team that pushed the San Antonio Spurs to the brink of elimination in the Western Conference Semifinals this year. San Antonio eventually lost to the LA Lakers and it’s going to be a Boston Celtics-LA Lakers Finals starting tomorrow!
But back to Chris Paul…
Ask people who are successful, and they will surely tell you a story of defying odds, …

Last September 27, 2007, BONO received the Liberty Medal for his humanitarian work in Africa. You can read the news article here.
In 2006, former presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton won the medal for putting politics aside to help raise more than $1 billion for disaster relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina and the 2004 tsunami in southeast Asia. Previous winners have included Afghan President Hamid Karzai, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

This is the biggest project of Unicef in 56 years.
Just some quick thoughts on the project:
1) Charity programs can be a great exercise of creativity. The Tap Project is one of the more creative charity projects I’ve seen in years. The video shows how a lot of media were used to “sell” the project.
2) People will give when they see that it works–and when it doesn’t take so much from them. $1 is nothing to people but $1 gives a new lease on life for 40 children a day. Other …

You may not know the guy, and you may not have heard of this before, but this is one great lecture. The one I’m posting here is just a summary of it. If you want to watch the full lecture, go to YouTube and search for Randy Pausch - Last Lecture.
Pausch has been a co-founder, along with Don Marinelli, of Carnegie-Mellon U’s Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) and he started the Building Virtual Worlds course at CMU and taught it for ten years. He has been a National Science Foundation Presidential …
