Blast From the Recent Past 1: You Were There [Southern Sons]
This is the first of a series of posts on songs from my recent past, which means popular songs when I was growing up in the 90’s.
You Were There was something that became a hit when I was in 4th year high school (circa 1995). That was a time of idealism and hope and love. When you’re high school, it seemed like you have the world in the palm of your hands and anything is possible. This song hearkens back to that time in my life.

Terry Fator!
Terry Fator is known as The Human Jukebox because he is capable of making over 100 ventriloquial impersonations. He uses 16 different puppets for his shows. The videos here are from the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent which he won.
He has revolutionized Ventriloquism and he is one of my most favorite performers. The cool thing about him is that he’s not just a great ventriloquist, he also has a great singing voice, and he has a flair for comedy as well. The combination makes for great talent. Simon Cowell has called him “One of the two most talented people in the planet.”

No Air
This is Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown performing my newest favorite song on American Idol. I love the rhythm, the music and the lyrics.
The music video of this song is even better. Click here for the music video.
No Air
Jordin Sparks feat. Chris Brown

Losing you is like living in a world with no air
Oh
[Chris Brown]

My heart won’t move, it’s incomplete
If there was a way that I can make …

Bluer than Blue — Regine Velasquez Cover
This is one classic break up song. I heard it on the taxi on the way home from work and wanted to write about it. I just love this version by Regine Velasquez. Regine has gone through bad break-ups and “bad” relationships where she was seen as the other woman who broke up couples. She’s in a relationship with singer/songwriter Ogie Alcasid right now, which started out weird but is ending happily.
When you’re bluer than blue and sadder than sad, maybe you just need to wait and let things …

Steep
It’s a Sunday and I’m not even supposed to post anything today. But I just had to post this video I found on YouTube. It’s Nina’s version of Steep which was a Lauren Christy original. The song is poignant and sad and makes you wanna cry (hehe). And I love this version by Nina. For some reason, I love this even better than the original. This is a friend’s favorite song and she kept asking me for it the past days. I think she finally got a copy through LimeWire …
